Date:
Wednesday, October 3, 2012 - Part I
Thursday, October 4, 2012 - Part II
Time:
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Overview:
The popular EM Tips and Tricks course is now two days long. Attendees are invited to attend one or both days, depending on their interests and experience in electromagnetic (EM) simulation. AXIEM® , AWR's flagship planar simulator is used for both days of the workshop, although most of the concepts are applicable other planar simulators.
Part I focuses on EM ports and how to use them correctly. Particular attention is paid to the concepts of port grounding, and deembedding. Incorrect port settings can lead to numerical inaccuracies and incorrect interpretation of the results. Many user problems can be traced back to problems with port settings.
Part II picks up where Part I left off, giving the user advice on topics ranging from meshing issues, to examples illustrating common EM simulation principles. In part II, the attendee will see more advanced deembedding issues, including: coplanar and stripline geometries, issues with packaged parts, and manual deembedding for custom geometries. The discussion then turns to various meshing issues, including controlling the mesh, mesh simplification, and ground planes. The course concludes with examples of interest to circuit designers: power amplifier layout issues, side walls and cavities, and vias.
