Recession buster!

AWR Sherry HessIf you were one of the 4000+ persons at European Microwave Week (EuMW) in Paris in late September, you’d be like me and glad you were there! The EuMW exhibition was huge, with more than 250 exhibitors. Impressive, even expansive booth configurations from Rohde & Schwarz, AWR and Anritsu covered the show floor, and what was even better is that you had a hard time to get a full view of each as the engineers, designers, industry professionals, etc. packed the aisles (record attendance reported at 4,621).

Outside of the show floor, there were many, great technical sessions being offered, too. One in particular, the Nonlinear Vector Network Analyzer User's Forum was invigorating. This informal discussion group of competitors not only openly shared information on instrumentation used in vector large-signal network analysis of microwave circuits and systems but also agreed to explore a ‘standard’ for sharing this nonlinear data.

Synergistic with the NVNA user forum, Rohde & Schwarz, AWR and NMDG presented a tutorial that covered “S-Functions, High-Frequency Design Software, and Vector Network Analyzers in Nonlinear Device and Power Amplifier Design”. The standing-room-only crowd stayed for 90-minutes plus to learn more about this emerging field of nonlinear behavior models.

Even in the evening hours, sessions were still taking place like TriQuint’s New TQP15 Process rollout presentation. With all this activity and opportunities to learn and interact, there was no time for a break. If this show is a barometer for our RF & microwave industry and economy, then EuMW was a recession buster for sure, and I look forward to the year ahead!

White Paper: The Advantages of MRHB™

MRHB White PaperTraditional harmonic balance analysis is, more often than not, limited in its ability to solve large circuits with many different signal sources due to the long computation times and large amounts of computer memory required. To make harmonic balance analysis viable when analyzing such circuits, AWR has pioneered a multi-rate harmonic balance (MRHB) technology within its APLAC® family of harmonic balance and time-domain simulators. The capabilities provided with MRHB make it possible to solve entire complex subsystems such as mobile phone transceivers in a practical amount of time.

This white paper traces the use of harmonic balance in solving microwave problems, describes MRHB technology, and provides examples of its effectiveness when compared with traditional harmonic balance simulators.
