EM Tricks and Tips for Designers (1 Day)

Location:

Campbell, California

AWR Silicon Valley
1999 S. Bascom Avenue

Suite 300
Campbell, CA 95008

Date:

January 19, 2012

Time:

9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Overview:

This one day course explains how to effectively use your EM simulator.  The examples in the course use AWR's premiere planar simulator, AXIEM, but most of the concepts can be applied to any commercial, planar simulator.  Topics covered emphasize problem areas designers encounter when simulating realistic circuit topologies.  The discussion is grouped into four main areas: ports, grounding, modeling, and simulation and meshing.

Designers frequently make errors when using EM simulators.  The purpose of this course is to explain how the more common errors occur by explaining the assumptions and limitations of the algorithms used in EM technology.  Common problems covered include: not understanding deembedding limitations in ports, misinterpreting results because of grounding errors, and setting up the mesh and solver options incorrectly.

Please contact training[at]awrcorp.com if you would like advice on whether this course is appropriate for your background and needs.

Detailed Course Agenda:

  • Issues with Ports: Deembedding Limitations and Assumptions
  • Grounding Concepts and  EM Simulation
  • Modeling Issues: Spiral Inductors
  • Simulation and Meshing Trade-Offs

Hardware:

Bringing your own laptop is preferred.  If necessary, a laptop will be provided.

Software, licenses, and required training materials will be provided.
