MANAGEMENT

Dr. John DeFord

John DeFord earned his BS in Mathematics and Physics, as well as his MS
and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. In 1987,
upon graduation, he joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
(LLNL), where he wrote finite difference time domain (FDTD) codes for
accelerator component design within the organization's Beam Research
Group.  Later, John took over as program manager of the Computational
Electronics and Electromagnetics Thrust area at LLNL.

In 1994 John joined McNeil Schwendler Corporation (MSC), where his
technical expertise in the field of electromagnetic (EM) technology made
him an instrumental member of the software team that developed
MicroWaveLab, a competitor to Ansoft's HFSS software tool. In 1996,
Ansoft acquired MSC and he joined Ansoft to assist with HFSS.

Shortly thereafter, John founded STAAR, Inc. and began the development
of Analyst, the industry's first fully parallelized high- performance,
ultra-high accuracy 3D finite element method (FEM) EM code.  Today John
is part of AWR and responsible for guiding the company's 3D FEM
technology tool development.
